The Saturday Kickabout Round Up - 11th November

Saturday, 10 November 2007

Ryman Division One North

Aveley 0 Brentwood Town 6

After two successive defeats Brentwood bounced back with a comprehensive win at Mill Field this afternoon.
Terry Scotchmer led the way with an early penalty and he went on to complete a hat trick in the second half. Gareth Street scored our send goal to give us a 2-0 half time lead and the goals flowed after the break from Scotchmer, Sean Thomas, Lee Noble and Scotchmer (another pen).

The FA Cup

Billericay 1-2 Swansea

Billericay Town pushed league one side Swansea City all the way in this enthralling FA Cup tie. Over 100 places behind their illustrious opposition, Town took the lead through Wayne Semanshia before two goals from Guillem Bauza took the tie away from ...

Billericay manager Matt Jones was able to recall Dave McSweeney after a spell out through injury and against a near full-strength Swansea City side, Town needed him and the rest of their defence to be on their toes early on as Swansea dominated the early proceedings. McSweeney blocked an effort from Andrea Orlandi whilst Danny Kerrigan made an important tackle to deny Leon Britton a goalscoring chance as Swansea pushed forward. Gradually Billericay began to get into the game, pushed forward by an inspirational performance from skipper Jamie Dormer.

Midway through the half Billericay took the lead. Joe Flack was clearly being fouled when the ball came into the box from the Billericay left, but Swansea failed to deal with the ball which found it's way to Wayne Semanshia who prodded home from close range for his first senior goal for the club.

The goal gave Town the lift they were looking for and they enjoyed their best spell of the match for the remainder of the half with some neat passing moves. Joe Flack, who was well marshalled by Gary Monk, went close with a low shot that David Knight saved.

As might be expected Swansea came out for the second half fired up, and once again Billericay were called upon to defend early on. They still had their chances with Jamie Dormer shooting over after a good run. Just as it looked as though Town had weathered the storm, Swansea equallised when Guillem Bauza ran at the home defence before firing home from twenty yards.

Billericay rallied and continued to match their opponents with some energetic attacking play, forcing a number of corners. Just as it looked as though they would be able to take Swansea to a replay, however, Bauza capitallised on Town's failure to clear a ball into the box to sweep home a late winner.
