Body Talk - 13th November

My guest this week was Mr Wael Ismail, Consultant Breast Surgeon. We have had many different views on breast cancer both from the patient and nuursing point of view. This week it was the turn of a consultant to reassure us of the safe hands that we are in when that dreaded lump appears.

He was keen to point out that out of the thirty or so patients he sees per week, only a small proportion of them actually have breast cancer. So even if you do have a bit of a scare it doesn't always mean the worst. However, it is important to get any abnormality checked out. Doctors and consultants are only too pleased to send you away with a clean bill of health, that's what they are there for.

The screening process is thorough and will pick up on anything unusual, and as soon as it is found it will be dealt with. There are new drugs coming out all of the time as research into this area continues, and together with specialised treatment, once the offending lump is removed, there is a high expectation that it will not return.  Aftercare is of the highest standards today, and with regular check ups you can be sure that any subsequent health issues will be picked up on immediately.

For more information, contact me and I can pass your questions on.
